Matteo’s Public was founded on the belief that only through the success of our community will we prosper.  Because of this belief, we are committed to supporting our local farmers and ranchers and we give back to our community by hosting frequent fundraisers.  Additionally we will have organic ingredients when possible, which may or may not be noted in the menu.

Our further commitment to our community includes conducting business in a sustainable manner.

Our Location

We are located in the heart of the historic gold rush town of Nevada City. Our Building was built in 1862. It was originally Blazes saloon. In the fire of 1863 the court house burned to the ground. Blazes moved across the street and our location was used a temporary court house till the new one was built. It is rumored that our building also was used a Chinese jail during this time. The Chinese quarter is located just up the street a few hundred feet. There is a window into our kitchen that still has original iron bars …

We strive to have music 7 nights a week. We here in Nevada county are so very lucky to have an amazing amount of talented musicians. The music we have is everything from Blues Grass to Brazilian jazz, Singer song writers playing only originals.

When the weather is right we have our music outside on our patio under a 100 year old Japanese maple tree.
